12 Things to Buy at Costco This Christmas if You Live on Retirement Income

Christmas shopping

Shopping for Christmas can be expensive, especially if you’re living on a limited retirement income. Costco, however, can ease the burden on the wallet, if you know where to find the deals.

Like every other retailer, Costco plans on hosting many Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals, both in-store and online. The fliers have already come out and you can search the deals online to prepare ahead of time.

Here are some gift ideas to spoil your loved ones (and yourself) this holiday season.

1. Gift Cards

Costco has a wide range of gift cards and sells them for less than face value. If you buy in bulk, you can save even more money.

The gift cards are available for many different retailers and restaurants, so you can buy a variety of them and dole them out for Christmas. Of course, you can also use them for yourself—we won’t tell.

2. Jigsaw Puzzles

If you have grandchildren on your list, consider buying some puzzles to keep them busy. You can buy a pack of three puzzles for around $40, each ranging from 500 to 1,000 pieces.

Since they come in a pack of three, you can easily split them among three different recipients, or make one person very happy.

3. Holiday Throws

One of my favorite gifts to give is a holiday throw. They are super cozy and often cheap enough that buying a few won’t break the bank.

Costco has a few different designs available for just under $20. While you’re at it, pick up one for yourself and stay warm when the temperatures drop.

4. Mr. Christmas Santa Mugs

If you have a coffee or tea lover in your family, mugs are always appreciated—seriously, you can never have too many. And what better way to spruce up the holiday season than to enjoy a warm beverage with Santa?

The Mr. Christmas Santa mugs are hand-painted, featuring Kris Kringle with different expressions. They’re safe to put in both the microwave and dishwasher.

5. Danish Butter Cookies

When the holiday season rolls around, the Danish butter cookies feature more prominently on store shelves, and for good reason. They’re absolutely melt-in-your-mouth delicious.

With a four-pack of the cookie tins available for $19.99, coming out to $5 each, you can gift your loved ones these yummy treats and still have some left over to eat yourself.

6. Small Appliances

Costco usually has good deals on small household appliances, like blenders and food processors, especially for the holidays.

This year, it’s offering the Ninja Blast Personal Blender for $60. The warehouse club is also offering $100 off a KitchenAid stand mixer and $20 off a Shark WandVac handheld vacuum for members.

7. Hair Styling Systems

If someone on your list is a beauty influencer or simply loves doing their hair, the Shark FlexStyle Air Styling and Drying system is available for $70 off on Black Friday.

The Dyson Airwrap Multi-Styler is also available for $100 off. These items can be found in the store or on the Costco website.

8. Dearfoams Slippers

When the temperatures drop, it’s important to keep your feet warm. Dearfoams slippers and footwear items are available for 30% off come Cyber Monday, though you will need to order through Costco NEXT.

What better way to stay warm and comfortable? Plus, they make excellent gifts for the adults in your family.

9. Ghirardelli Chocolate Treats Tower

Know anyone with a sweet tooth? Want to give the kids a sugary rush then hand them back to mom and dad? Ghirardelli is well-known for its buttery chocolate that melts in your mouth and leaves you craving more.

This decadent treats tower is on sale for around $29.99 this Cyber Monday, a $10 savings. It comes with several treats, including wafers, popcorn, hot cocoa, and cookies.

10. Dessert Treats

Walnut bread, stuffed brie, and peppermint bark, oh my! If you’re hosting the holidays at your place, you can’t go wrong with a dessert selection. Fortunately, Costco has plenty of options.

From pretzels to cookies and eggnog to wash it all down, you can find some good deals at the retailer to feed your guests.

11. Gift Baskets

Not sure what to get someone on your list? You can’t go wrong with a gift basket. Costco usually has a few different varieties on sale including fruit, meat, and chocolate options.

These are mostly available online, but the good news is you can have them delivered right to your recipient, a great idea for those out of town relatives.

12. Decorations

While not usually the cheapest place to pick up holiday decor, Costco does have some gems worth discovering. Holiday inflatables, for example, are often a bit cheaper here than your traditional big box store—if you can find them.

If you’re looking for decorations, it can’t hurt to see what your local warehouse club has out. Who knows, you might find an unbeatable price.
